I was sent here by some friends who used to live in Louisville. We weren't staying especially close to this restaurant, so when I dragged my family here, they weren't especially thrilled that we didn't go somewhere closer. It's in a shaky shopping center, so we ended up driving by once just by accident. Needless to say, the group was a bit grumpy by the time we were seated, and then we found out they didn't serve alcohol and the grumpitude got even worse.
But then the food started to come to the table, and people's attitudes began to change. Most of us had al carbon dishes--I had a torta, others had tacos and burritos. My dad and my sister's fiance, both of them boasting big appetites, barely finished their al carbon burritos--just so much meat in them. My sister's fiance said it was the best Mexican food he's ever had.
We also had a ceviche and quesadilla for the table. I was the biggest ceviche fan in the group and nearly ordered a second one. The carne quesadilla nearly set off a riot. I had a piece and loved it. No one else was eating very quickly, so I had another piece. Once the others really started to eat their portions, they were upset that I'd eaten half of it. It was so good that everybody wanted more than they ended up eating.
This place isn't fancy at all. There is no ambience whatsoever. It's just food--delicious food. Order everything al carbon and you won't regret it. -

Great Authentic food. No frills. No chips and salsa like your typical Mexican restaurant. I get the the chicken burrito every time and have no intention of changing since their so good.

Authentic authentic little hole in the wall restaurant.
Very small location. Seat yourself and be served. The drinks sit next to you in a fridge as you want them with the salsa. But I have to say it was delicious. If you want that feel good in your tummy good/ then this is your place. Try it out. The tacos are well made. I always get 5 to fill me up. The green salsa makes them even better with lime!

I have been looking for a place to eat Mexican food in Louisville for the past 10 years. Originally from Northern California I have been unable to find anything that I would desire to eat when it comes to Mexican food, until now. Taqueria La Mexicana is authentic Mexican Food. It has around 7 tables and good food. I had tacos and a torta, both that were amazing. I will frequent this establishment from this day forward and recommend it if you are looking for a good bite to eat.
